Summary of Job:
The main purpose of the Copy Editor role is to deliver on the editorial quality assurance of educational content, in multiple formats, ensuring alignment with the required quality standards and styles. The role is focused on editing and proofreading written and multimedia content to ensure it is error free, engaging, and accessible to the intended audience. The Copy Editor will work on educational content across a wide variety of subject matter areas and assist Instructional Designers with their writing.are hiring English Language SMEs. Experience: 2-6 years
Education and Experience:
● A university qualification in linguistics, English, journalism, publishing, law, or similar, completed in English.
● Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in an editing or proofreading role.
● Excellent written skills, including thorough knowledge of grammar, syntax, spelling, and punctuation, and comfort working with various English conventions (e.g. US, UK, Australian, Canadian).
● Highly skilled in using Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and GSuite. [MES1]
● Knowledge of referencing styles, including but not limited to Harvard, APA, and Chicago.
● Previous educational publishing experience would be advantageous.
● Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
● Good organizational skills: ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
Role and Responsibilities:
● Edit and proofread written and multimedia content according to internal quality frameworks and partner standards and style guides, focusing on:
- Grammar and spelling
- Logic, accuracy, and structure
- Appropriate tone and style for the intended audience
- Formatting and layout, including the use of markdown language
- Fact-checking and consistency
- Inclusive language and accessibility requirements
● Implement changes to content from faculty
● Support the academic integrity of the educational content by running and interpreting plagiarism checks, escalating issues, and ensuring content is correctly referenced and cited according to the required style.
● Conduct multiple quality assurance checks on graphics and final QA content
● Cross reference design requirements and multiple documents for alignment
● Provide instructional designers feedback on their writing, when necessary
● Work with different teams including graphic designers and implementation specialists
● Consistently engage with department processes and platforms, upskilling where required and proposing possible improvements.
● Assist with maintaining style guides and templates to ensure adherence to industry best practices.
